Value Project

The thing I like most about what I did in this piece is the contrast that I used between the black and white of the woman and the bright, vibrant red of the flower. I spent a lot of time trying to get the proportions correct and realistic on the figure of the girl. I think if I were to improve on anything, I would need to improve on the shading, especially on the face and the nose. Also, taking a second look at this piece, one eye is bigger than the other, so I would fix that and I think I made her lips too big. I think if this piece were to have a cultural inspiration, it would be Latin. This piece portrays a woman holding a red flower. I was inspired to create this piece by looking at images of flowers online and looking at pictures of celebrities such as Selena Gomez. I wanted to practice portraits and nature. I think combining the two into one artwork was a good experience for me, and helped me to grow on my ability to draw people. I like the way this piece turned out. Like I said earlier, I like the contrast between the black and white and the pop of color, however, I think it would be interesting to see how it would turn out if I were to make the whole thing really bright and colorful.
